As one of New Zealand’s largest charitable trusts, the Dilworth Trust Board is dedicated to delivering on James Dilworth’s founding vision — providing life-changing educational opportunities to young men from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Trust oversees Dilworth School’s operations, curriculum standards, student performance, and wellbeing, all within the framework of a values-based, Anglican education.

To strengthen the Board’s capability in education oversight, the Trust sought a Trustee with proven executive leadership across New Zealand’s secondary and/or tertiary education sector. The ideal candidate would bring deep experience in curriculum development, student achievement, school administration, and sector engagement.

Ngaire Ashmore brings more than two decades of sector leadership. Since 2017, she has served as Principal of Auckland Girls’ Grammar School, where she led a comprehensive turnaround in academic achievement and school culture. Previously, she was Principal of Tangaroa College for twelve years and played an instrumental role in reshaping outcomes for students and communities.

In 2014, Ngaire was seconded to the Centre for Educational Leadership at the University of Auckland, contributing to national education initiatives and mentoring first-time principals. Her leadership has been widely recognised for its focus on equity, excellence, and culturally responsive practice, particularly in advancing Māori and Pacific student outcomes.
