Trust Management appoints Duncan Smith as Key Client Manager/Head of Client Secretariat

We are delighted to have partnered with Trust Management on the appointment of Duncan Smith as Key Client Manager / Head of Client Secretariat.

A pivotal member of the Trust Management Client Services Team, the Key Client Manager/Head of Secretariat is responsible for strategically managing and growing key client accounts and, in particular Trust Management’s relationship with the Melanesia Mission Trust Board.

This crucial leadership role involves oversight of service delivery and ensuring seamless collaboration between Trust Management and its clients, particularly during periods of transition and organisational change.

Duncan is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years in senior executive roles in Professional Services organisations in New Zealand, South Africa, Russia, Hungary and the Cayman Islands.

Most recently, Duncan has been Chief Operating Officer for BDO New Zealand leading a cross functional business team, supporting BDO’s Offices across the country and executing on BDO’s National strategy.

He had previously held senior operational roles in his former firm, KPMG, most recently undertaking an 18-month contract for KPMG South Africa as Strategic Operations Director where he played a key restructuring and change management role assisting in  the stabilisation and recovery of the National Practice .

Before this, he was Chief Operations Officer for KPMG New Zealand for over five years where he managed and oversaw Information Technology, Operations (including premises), and Finance functions across seven offices with operational and strategic input through Executive and Board participation.

Before joining KPMG, he had a brief stint at the Financial Markets Authority as Head of Business Performance following a  right years at law firm,  MinterEllison (Minters), initially as the Chief Financial Officer and subsequently, the Chief Operating Officer.

Duncan spent his early career with KPMG in audit and assurance which spanned New Zealand, Cayman Islands, Hungary, and Russia/CIS.

Trust Management offers a range of professional services that include investment management and advisory, property asset management, board support and administration, and accounting services to over 180 entities across Aotearoa New Zealand including community foundations, iwi, medical research trusts, hospices, education trusts, university foundations, and other charities associated with religious denominations (including Anglican, Catholic and Presbyterian Churches).  All surplus generated by the company is distributed to its shareholder, the Auckland Anglican Diocese, for its operations and community outreach programmes.
