Meridian Energy Limited appoints Mandy Simpson as Chief Financial Officer
We are delighted to have partnered with Mike Roan and Jason Stein on the appointment of Mandy Simpson as Chief Financial Officer of Meridian Energy Limited.
The role of the Chief Financial Officer is to support the CEO and Board enhance the long-term financial health of the business while maximising investment returns and driving wider corporate objectives.
Success in this role requires balancing strategic positioning, capital allocation, investor and stakeholder management and day-to-day financial management while working with the CEO, Executive Team colleagues and the Board.
A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Mandy has deep financial expertise with experience managing overall company and business unit financial performance. Most recently, she has held roles in the Energy sector as GM Strategy Delivery & Innovation and before that, Chief Digital Officer for Z Energy. She has also held roles in financial services and regulatory (NZX and London Stock Exchange) and technology (Fronde Systems Group and Cyber Toa).
Mandy spent almost 13 years of her career in accounting and finance roles, with CFO roles at State Services Commission, IT Services Provider, Fronde Systems, and CentrePort (Interim CFO). She also held various audit and finance roles at Accenture and Audit New Zealand. She commenced her career in Deloitte’s forensic fraud investigation team in the United Kingdom.
Mandy has an active interest in the impact of disruptive technologies and keeps up to date on the business and social impacts of a wide range of technology shifts. In 2021, she was ranked as the No. 1 CIO in New Zealand in recognition of her work in pioneering Z Energy’s new payments technology.
A 100% renewable energy generator, Meridian Energy Limited is New Zealand’s largest renewable electricity generator and generates around one third of the country’s electricity needs. It produces power from seven hydro stations, six wind farms, and commercial solar arrays. In Australia, the company owns two wind farms and three hydropower stations.
Meridian is also the largest retailer of electricity in New Zealand supplying power to more than 350,000 residential, business, and industrial customers under the Meridian and Powershop brands. It employs over 1,000 people and is the second largest firm listed the NZX, reflecting its scale and influence within the country’s energy sector.
