Context
Then CEO, Brian Hartzer, was renewing several members of his Leadership Team. Following the departures of George Frazis and Brad Cooper, and to backfill the role left by the lateral move of David Lindberg to the CEO, Consumer role, we launched a search for an executive to lead the newly formed Business & Wealth Division following the merger of the BT Financial Group with the Business Banking division. The new division produces circa $7.5 billion revenue.
Competency Based Criteria

End to end responsibility for all relevant banking products and sales to SMEs, commercial and agribusiness customers

Wealth Management
End to end responsibility for all wealth management products and customers

Executive Leadership
Senior most leadership role (direct report of Chief Executive Officer and member of SLT), including strong exposure to the Board

Team Leadership
Experience leading and mentoring large teams of similar size and stature to that of the respective Westpac functions

Scale
Experience leading a division in an organisation of similar scale to Westpac

Succession Potential
The ability to succeed Brian Hartzer as Group CEO in 2-3 years

Guilherme Lima
Guilherme ‘Guil’ Lima was appointed to the role. Guil is a Brazilian who is married to an Australian. A former McKinsey Partner, Guil had joined HSBC as Group Strategy Officer prior to leading the Latin American business for HSBC. At the time of our approach, Guil was Head of Global Wealth.
