2024 Johnson Partners’ Leadership Award Winner announced at INFINZ Awards

Johnson Partners are very pleased to announce Todd Hunter, Group CEO of Turners Automotive Group Limited as the 2024 recipient of the Johnson Partners' Leadership Award at the prestigious INFINZ Awards Dinner held in Auckland last night.

Of the 14 companies and CEOs that satisfied the qualifying criteria for the award, in a difficult trading environment, only four achieved positive TSRs. Of these, one organisation, Turners Automotive Group, stood out.

Turners Automotives Group reported FY23 revenue of NZ$389.6m, representing growth of +13% against FY22 with positive contributions from each of TRA’s core divisions.. Financially, the company announced a record net profit before tax in 2023 (10% ahead of same period last year despite material macro-economic challenges) and reaffirmed guidance that the FY24 result is expected to be ahead of FY23.

In December 2023, S&P Dow Jones Indices confirmed that the company would be added to the NZX 50 Portfolio.

The winning CEO was praised by the judges not only for the business’s successful financial performance but also for the transformational approach to continuous change and diversification of the business. Integral to this has been and continues to be a commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within the organisation which has resulted in employee engagement scores ranking in the top 5% of companies measured globally.

Additionally, the judges were pleased to see the personal and professional growth in the CEO as a leader which has translated into a strong culture and business performance.  This leader is not afraid to embrace complexity and looks out for the right things to grow a strong culture internally operating the business upon the formula that a great employee experience gives the best chance of providing a great customer experience which combine to deliver great shareholder value.  There is a strong alignment between the CEO and their personal brand and the organisation.

Todd joins highly regarded past winners including Lewis Gradon of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, David Mair of Skellerup Holdings, Darrin Grafton of Serko, Andy Borland of Scales Corporation, Mark Cairns of Port of Tauranga, Grant Webster of Tourism Holdings, Rod Duke of Briscoe Group, Don Braid of Mainfreight, Michael Daniell of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, Mark Waller of EBOS Group and Simon Challies of Ryman Healthcare.
